Physiotherapy at Acer House Practice

At Acer House Practice, our highly skilled physiotherapy team provide patients with specialised clinical treatments for pain and injuries.

In common with our osteopaths and chiropractors, all our expert physios have at least 10 years’ experience and have worked with people of all ages and abilities – including elite UK/international athletes – treating a range of conditions.

Our physio team treat patients using a variety of techniques such as manual hands-on therapy, movement and exercise, education, and advice.

They are very focused both on individual patient care and on developing long-term strategies to promote effective healing, including exercises to increase strength as well as improving flexibility and balance. These prescribed exercises are designed to enhance your recovery and build resilience and confidence.

They are supported, where required, by the facilities available in our superb rehabilitation suite, as well as specialist technologies such as force plates (which measure the force going through the ground when a patient walks, runs, or jumps etc).  These technologies can help identify the cause of numerous pain conditions and injuries. They can also monitor recovery, providing a helpful measure of progress and the effectiveness of the treatment process.

How can physiotherapy help me?

A quick synopsis of how some of our physio techniques could help you:

Manual therapy – including massage or joint manipulation, where our physiotherapist uses hands-on techniques to help relieve pain and stiffness and encourage better movement of the body.

Movement/tailored exercise – we may recommend exercises (sometimes supported by our rehabilitation suite) to improve your general health and mobility, to strengthen specific parts of your body, and to help sportspeople get back into training.

Education and advice – our physiotherapists can give you general advice about more general life-style issues, such as posture and correct lifting, or carrying techniques to help prevent injuries.

Specialist techniques – as we’ve indicated, our physios also use other techniques such as kinesiology taping and dry needling, or any of the equipment available to them in our rehabilitation suite, to further your recovery.

Cross-disciplinary referral – they might also recommend and engage other members of our multidisciplinary team to you, to provide a comprehensive and integrated treatment plan for your condition or injury.

Acer House Practice has trusted affiliations with leading external medical professionals.  If your physiotherapist feels further investigation is warranted and appropriate, they may refer you for imaging or to a specialist consultant for their opinion.

Your First Visit to Our Physiotherapists

Your consultation with our physiotherapist will start with a detailed case history. This helps them get an insight into how the pain or injury is affecting you, as well as understanding your personal goals in terms of recovery.

This is very individual to the patient and can extend from simple everyday activities (for example, picking up young children, gardening, or sitting comfortably at a desk), to high-level sporting achievements.

You physio will then begin formulating a diagnosis to guide their clinical examination that follows.

This may involve various orthopaedic tests and examine specific movements that might be limited.

After this examination your physio will explain their findings to you, and then discuss treatment options, before commencing therapy.
